Gyukatsu Motomura Shinjuku

Gyukatsu Motomura is the go-to spot for beef katsu (gyukatsu) in Tokyo. Unlike traditional tonkatsu made with pork, gyukatsu uses a thick cut of beef that is lightly breaded and deep-fried, leaving the inside beautifully rare.
Your set comes with a hot stone plate so you can sear each slice to your preferred doneness. Dip it in one of three sauces — rock salt, wasabi soy sauce, or a special katsu sauce — for different flavor experiences.
The standard set includes rice, miso soup, shredded cabbage, and barley tea. It's filling, affordable, and absolutely delicious. Expect to wait 20-40 minutes during lunch, but the line moves steadily. Well worth the wait.
