Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden

An Oasis in the City
Shinjuku Gyoen is one of Tokyo largest and most beautiful parks, spanning 58 hectares right in the heart of Shinjuku. Originally a private garden for the Imperial family, it was opened to the public in 1949.
Three Gardens in One
The park contains three distinct garden styles:
- Japanese Traditional Garden — Ponds, bridges, and a tea house surrounded by carefully maintained trees
- English Landscape Garden — Wide open lawns perfect for picnics
- French Formal Garden — Symmetrical flower beds and rows of plane trees
Best Times to Visit
Cherry blossom season (late March to early April) is magical here, with over 1,000 cherry trees in bloom. Autumn foliage in November is equally spectacular. The greenhouse with tropical plants is worth a visit any time of year.
Entry fee is 500 yen for adults. No alcohol is allowed in the park. Closed on Mondays.
